Video game tech has grown exponentially in the past few years. Graphics are realistic enough to tempt a gamer to reach out and touch a virtual character. So lifelike are settings and virtual people that gamers are drawn even further into the virtual reality that challenges, hones skills, and entertains for hours.
As 2017 draws to a close, summing up a few of the best games out there seems appropriate, especially in light of how just awesome they are. Nordstrom can provide tech gifts such as headphones, speakers, and other accessories to make gaming more enjoyable.
In no particular order, here are five of the most off the chain games of 2017.
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
If the first Resident Evil wasn’t terrifying enough, this one is. Imaging visiting a crumbling mansion in Louisiana and being stalked by the home’s bizarre and demented caretakers. With its chilling graphics, almost silly (but fun) storyline, and the history brought to the table by previous iterations of the franchise, Resident Evil 7 scores 10 out of 10 bone-chilling shrieks for imagination.
Gravity Rush 2
PSF’s next series following the Vita adventure will make you battle evil in a new and bizarre land. But the twist is you have the ability to flip the world on its head. An engrossing storyline, charming characters named Kat and Raven, and the chance to save the floating city of Heskeville all make this game a winner.
She Remembered Caterpillars
This game has been called “fungipunk” by developers. This puzzle game will have you working hard to figure out how to build bridges and clear paths among various types of insects. Sound weird? It is. But it’s fun. And it’s got great art.
Dandy Dungeon
This game is nuts. But it’s storyline is catchy, the characters likeable, and the quest imaginative. You watch a games developer named Yamada who is working hard to impress his neighbor (who he’s crushing on) with his video games. Then you play to win your way through each of Yamada’s games. Pretty clever.
Sniper Elite 4
Picking up where previous Sniper Elites left off, this third-person WWII shooter game focuses on gamers taking shots at Nazis. But it’s the design and mechanics that really rock. Sniper Elite 4’s artificial intelligence has been upgraded, and enemies are now more natural and responsive respond to players’ actions. This lifelikeness is a welcome improvement.
Nioh
Finally, Nioh, a Samurai role-playing fantasy game, contains missions that its main character, William, undergoes to gather collectables and fight the natural and supernatural. William’s energy in this hack and slash combat game is based on KI, and as this runs down, he (that is, you, the player) is more vulnerable to attack. Keep William alive and you’ll do just fine in this imaginative and charming game.
Again, 2017 was a fantastic year for video game development. All these games, and many more released in the last 12 months, will go down as classics for the ages. But as technology continues to improve and awe us, what lies ahead for 2018? One can only imagine, but it will be at least as good as the great stuff we have now. And that’s exciting.
